Commission for Higher Education established; commission assumes responsibilities for higher education and the state colleges previously administered by the Board of Education

1977, August 1, Public Act 77-614

Board of Higher Education is established to replace the Commission for Higher Education

1983, March, Public Act 82-218

Board of Governors of Higher Education replaces the Board of Higher Education; a new Department of Higher Education serves as the administrative arm of the Board of Governors

2011, July 1, Public Act 11-48

Board eliminated; functions of the Department of Higher Education are split between the State Board of Education and the new Office of Financial and Academic Affairs for Higher Education
