Established; succeeded the Joint Committee of State Mental Hospitals comprising representatives from the Boards of Trustees of the State Mental  Hospitals:

Connecticut Valley Hospital, (started in 1867)
Norwich State Hospital
(started 1904)
Fairfield Hills State Hospital (started 1933)
Connecticut Child Study and Treatment Home
(started 1953)

1975, Public Act 75-524

Transferred children’s psychiatric services from the Department of Mental Health to the Department of Children and Youth Services

1995, Public Act 95-257

Absorbed into the newly formed Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services
